Upon loading the application, a screen will be presented showing a state search and a map of the USA. Before selecting a state, drag and drop a chart to be displayed into one of the empty bins. Once charts have been assigned to a bin, they will automatically be updated when a new selection is made.
There are three ways to search for information. By state, item, or country. The radio buttons allow switching between the different search types. Year selections and import/ export will remain the same even when switching between the search types.
Searching by state can be done with the search filter or clicking on the USA map. The search filter is not case sensitive. For each of the search filters it will do a match based upon whether or not the input filter is contained within one of the state options. For example, searching states for "hi" or "HI" will show HI-Hawaii, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Washington. Clicking on the state will then update the displayed charts.
Show are also examples of the Item and country search filter in effect.

As seen above, both item and country search have advance search options. When clicking on it, the screen will switch to a full view table of available entries. The table is sortable by ascending or descending order of the name, import and export value by year. The search filter will work on the name. The picture below has a view of the advanced item search of the left, and advanced country search on the right. Both are organized by 2013 export value. Item wise, USA seems to have civilian aircraft, engine and parts as the highest valued export item. Canada is the country that we export the most value wise out of all the countries in 2013.
Should an entry be clicked on, a popup will appear stating that the HScode was copied, and will be automatically placed into the search filter on the main page.
The hierarchy view for the items will produce an interactive tree style way of searching for a item.
It is also possible to use the search area to look for a specific item or branch of items.

There are two drop-down tabs that control the years to display and whether or not imports/exports should be shown. There can be multiple years selected. After a selection is made the charts will be updated. Furthermore, if multiple years are selected, then new charts will be available for viewing. Those charts will have comparisons made against the years.
Charts that are dragged to bins can be "pinned" by clicking on the icon in the top left area of the chart. When a chart is pinned, changes will not be applied, even if the user selects a new state, item, country, changes the year selection, or changes imports / exports.
For example, directly below is a pie chart which shows the states that export gold. And below that is a comparison of states between the years.
